Creating cards - Hints & Tips

Fire up your creativity with our handy hints

The basics

Technical stuff

If you're looking for technical information about using this website please check our help page or news page.

The right choice

This sounds obvious, but choose a design that you like and that you think will please the person you're sending the card to. We've got plenty of different designs to choose from for all occasions.

Say it in style

Try linking the messages on the front and inside your card in a fun way such as: What's so important about today? And inside the card says: It's your birthday!

Customising cards

You can customise the font of any message that appears on the front or inside of the card. Choose from our selection of font styles and colours to find one that works with your chosen design:
  • Pick out one of the colours from your chosen design, or use a contrasting colour. Make sure the text contrasts with the background – you want people to be able to read it easily!
  • Think about your style of card and choose a font that gives the same feel, such as a plain font for a formal card and something a little fancier for a humorous card.

Creative ideas

  • Send a special thank you card for a great gift by including a photo of you with your present to show your appreciation.
  • In your Christmas cards include a family photo and a few words outlining this year's highlights – a quick and effective way of keeping in touch.
  • Parents and grandparents will adore a card from the kids with a special message and photo.
  • When you can't think of a present a gift voucher is often a good idea. Use our cards to create your own gift voucher design such as: 'This card entitles to a weekend of pampering at the Royal Hotel, Bath.' Include a picture and you've got a really smart and thoughtful gift idea.
  • For a wedding anniversary card, include a photo from the wedding for that personal touch.
  • In a sympathy card add a happy memory of the person and a suitable photo to provide an upbeat message at a difficult time.
  • Include a famous quote inside your card. It could be funny or poignant, choose whatever's most relevant to the person or occasion.
